Browse large vaults in pages
On iOS and Android, Files loads up to 60 items per page. Use Previous and Next below the files. Only the current page’s thumbnails are decrypted for browsing. Search, tags and favourites include matching files beyond the current page. Filtering, tag discovery, folder covers and preparing a preview sequence may scan more encrypted metadata on this device. Private-preview swipes cross page boundaries within the current folder and filters. Locking clears the browsing session.
Add files without a detour through another app
- Unlock the destination vault and open the plus menu. On Android phones this is a bottom sheet; tablets retain the expanding menu. Empty iOS vaults show Tap + to add files as a reminder. Choose Import files, your photo library, Take photo or Record video. Camera and library access depend on the permission you grant.
- To create a folder, choose New folder from the same menu. Open the folder before importing when you want the new files stored there.
- On iOS and Android, deleting a folder offers Move contents and delete folder or Delete folder and contents. Choose a destination outside that folder’s subtree to preserve the contents. Nested folders keep their structure; conflicting destination folder names are unavailable. Deleting contents requires confirmation and includes all nested files.
- Wait for encryption to finish, then open a saved file to check it. Importing a copy does not automatically erase the original from your gallery, cloud photo library or file provider.
Find a smaller set of files
Tap the floating search button on iOS or Android to open the search bottom sheet. Enter a filename or tag, choose a tag filter, and use Done to return to the results. Clear filters resets the query and selected tag. File categories remain in the file browser; Android uses scrollable text tabs with an underline for the selected category. Search and tags operate on decrypted information inside the unlocked vault; another vault’s filenames are not included.
On iOS and Android, press Enter or Return to create and save a tag immediately. Removing a tag saves automatically too. The tag editor stays open and the keyboard remains visible for the next tag, with no separate Save action.
Mark an item as a favourite from its preview or file options. The star in the Files header filters favourites without clearing the current folder, search, tags, category or layout. A filled blue star indicates the active filter. Tablets also keep a sidebar shortcut to the vault’s favourites.
Change how the collection looks
Open File view options to choose Grid view or List view. The choice is saved for future opens; the visible star filters favourites inside the current folder.
Automatic import naming is optional in each vault’s settings. Check the current name before renaming or exporting a document that you need to identify later. File-count limits on Free are checked when adding more items; Pro has no file-count limit.
